Miras International School Almaty is proud to organize the Kazakhstan National Competition of High School Water Projects, the official national stage of the prestigious Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWP).
About the Competition
The Stockholm Junior Water Prize is one of the world's leading international competitions for young scientists, held annually under the auspices of the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI). Since 1997, thousands of students from more than 30 countries have participated by presenting research and innovative solutions related to water and environmental sustainability.
The Kazakhstan competition serves as the official national selection, giving outstanding students the opportunity to represent the country on the international stage in Stockholm, Sweden.
Who Can Participate?
The competition is open to high school students aged 15–18 from general secondary schools, gymnasiums, and lyceums across Kazakhstan.
Projects may be completed individually or in teams of up to two students.
Project Topics
Students are invited to develop original projects addressing issues related to:
- Water conservation and sustainable water management
- Water treatment and purification
- Protection and restoration of water resources
- Biodiversity and aquatic ecosystems
- Environmental sustainability
- Innovative technologies for water use
- Social, scientific, engineering, or creative solutions related to water
Projects may focus on Kazakhstan or on global water challenges and may combine natural sciences, engineering, social sciences, or creative approaches.
Judging Criteria
Projects are evaluated by an independent panel of experts from universities, research institutions, and industry based on:
- Scientific quality and methodology
- Innovation and creativity
- Environmental and social impact
- Practical application and scalability
- Presentation and communication skills
Awards
All finalists receive certificates of participation and commemorative gifts.
The winning project earns the honor of representing Kazakhstan at the international Stockholm Junior Water Prize in Stockholm, Sweden, with travel and participation costs covered by the organizers. Additional prizes are awarded to second- and third-place winners.
