Safety and well-being

Our approach to safety combines professional support services, modern security systems, regular training, and close cooperation with emergency agencies to ensure the well-being of the entire school community.
School safety and emergency support services
Miras International School maintains a dedicated network of services responsible for school safety and emergency response. These include:
- A professional school security service
- An on-site medical service
- Facilities and maintenance teams responsible for campus operations
- A dedicated Health and Safety Engineer overseeing occupational health and safety procedures
The school also partners with specialized service providers to ensure the proper operation and maintenance of all safety systems, including:
- Video surveillance systems
- Emergency notification and communication systems
- Automatic alarm systems and safety monitoring equipment
Campus security and anti-terrorism measures
The school campus operates under 24/7 security monitoring to provide a safe and protected environment for students, staff, and visitors.
- Controlled access and visitor management procedures
- Continuous video surveillance across the campus
- Monitoring of visitor entry and movement within the building
- Emergency alarm buttons with direct communication to emergency security services (Kuzet Korgau)
These systems enable rapid response and enhance the overall security of the school environment.
Fire safety
Strict fire safety procedures are implemented throughout the school. Students and staff regularly participate in fire safety briefings, evacuation drills, and emergency preparedness training.
Evacuation plans and firefighting equipment are clearly displayed and accessible on every floor, while all fire prevention systems are routinely inspected to ensure operational readiness.
Emergency preparedness
Clear procedures and response protocols have been established for a range of emergency situations, including:
- Fire emergencies
- Earthquakes
- Security threats and evacuation procedures
- Other unexpected incidents
Students and staff regularly participate in emergency drills and practical training to ensure preparedness and confidence in responding effectively to emergencies. The school is also connected to the citywide emergency notification systems of the Almaty Department of Emergency Situations (DES).
Medical care and health protection
Student health and well-being are supported through an on-site medical office, providing immediate assistance when needed.
The school maintains high standards of sanitation and hygiene, implements preventive measures against infectious diseases, and promotes health awareness to support the physical well-being of students and staff.
Digital safety and online protection
Miras recognises the importance of digital citizenship and online safety. Students participate in age-appropriate discussions and advisory sessions focused on:
- Safe internet use
- Personal data protection
- Responsible social media behaviour
- Cyber safety and digital well-being
These initiatives help students become informed, responsible, and safe users of technology.
Health and safety procedures
Safety instruction is integrated into everyday school life. Students receive mandatory safety briefings before participating in:
- Science laboratory work
- Physical education lessons
- Extracurricular activities and school events
These procedures help students understand safe practices and develop responsibility for their own well-being and the safety of others.
Educational trips and excursions
The safety of students during educational trips and excursions is carefully planned and monitored. Prior to any off-campus activity, trip leaders and students participate in mandatory safety briefings covering:
- Safe behaviour in public places
- Outdoor and environmental safety
- Transportation and bus safety procedures
- Emergency response guidelines
These briefings are conducted by the school's Health and Safety Engineer to ensure students are fully prepared for safe participation.
