MIS MUN International Conference

For more than 20 years, Miras International School Almaty has proudly hosted the MIS MUN International Conference—one of Kazakhstan's longest-running and most respected Model United Nations (MUN) conferences. Each year, the conference brings together students from Kazakhstan and abroad to engage in meaningful debate, diplomacy, and international cooperation while addressing some of the world's most pressing challenges.
What is Model United Nations?
Model United Nations (MUN) is an educational simulation of the United Nations in which students act as delegates representing UN Member States or international organizations. Through committee debates and negotiations, participants develop a deeper understanding of international relations, diplomacy, human rights, sustainable development, and global cooperation while strengthening their communication and leadership skills.

MIS MUN provides an authentic learning experience that helps students develop essential 21st-century competencies, including:

Conference Structure
Committees may include:
Delegates participate in a variety of United Nations committees, debating current international issues through formal parliamentary procedures. Depending on the annual conference programme, committees may include:
- General Assembly
- United Nations Security Council (UNSC)
- United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC)
- United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
- Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC)
- Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ)
Committee sessions are conducted in English, Russian, and Kazakh, providing opportunities for students to participate in multiple languages.
An International Learning Experience
MIS MUN welcomes students in Grades 9–12 from schools across Kazakhstan and other countries. During the conference, delegates:
- Represent assigned countries
- Debate current global issues
- Draft and negotiate resolutions
- Collaborate with international peers
- Develop confidence as young leaders and global citizens
Participants receive certificates recognizing their contribution to the conference and their commitment to international dialogue and diplomacy.
